Lamar County Released Inmate Records
“Released” does not always mean that someone went home. At the Lamar County Detention Center, it can mean bond, a court-ordered release, completion of county or city time, transfer to another county, transfer into Georgia Department of Corrections custody, or pickup on a detainer. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office creates the local booking and jail record. The court explains the legal result. A state, federal, or immigration agency holds the next record when custody shifts.
A person who is no longer booked will often vanish from a live jail population view. Lamar County’s former root InteropWeb roster now carries a removal notice, although its arrest-date page can still display Status: RELEASED. That status is a sound starting clue. It is not an exact time or reason. A full Lamar County release record must connect the status to the sheriff’s inmate information sheet, bond paper, court disposition, transfer record, or the next agency’s file.
Lamar County Release Paths
The release path determines where the useful record appears next. The sheriff says people received at the jail may have a chance to post bond pending court, remain until the court disposes of the case, serve county or city time, or await transfer after a state sentence. These are different outcomes even though each can remove a name from local current-custody results.
| Release path | What it means | Next record source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | The person leaves pending further court action. | Sheriff bond record and the named court |
| Court release or dismissal | A judge or case result ends the jail hold. | Disposition or release order from the court clerk |
| Time served | Credit or sentence completion ends local confinement. | Jail inmate record and sentence record |
| State transfer | Local custody ends because GDC assumes custody. | GDC Find an Offender and state sentence records |
| Other-agency detainer | Another authority takes custody. | Receiving county, federal agency, or ICE channel |
| Parole or probation | The person is out of confinement but subject to supervision. | Parole Board, DCS, local probation, or court records |
- Discharge
- The formal end of a custody term or supervision obligation.
- Time served
- A release based on time already spent in custody counting toward the sentence.
- Detainer
- A request or hold from another authority that may lead to transfer instead of community release.
- Parole
- Release from prison under conditions set by the State Board of Pardons and Paroles.
- Probation
- Court-ordered supervision that may follow a jail term or be imposed instead of prison.
How Lamar County Bond Release Works
Lamar County publishes more bond detail than many local jail sites. The sheriff’s bail and bonding instructions say a bondable defendant may bond out at any time, day or night. Options include cash, property, a professional bonding company, or a transfer bond arranged through another Georgia county. A bond release returns the person to the community while the case remains open; it is not a dismissal or proof that all court duties ended.
The sheriff lists one $20 bond-taking fee per defendant. Accepted fee forms are cash, certified check, cashier’s check, or postal money order payable to Sheriff of Lamar County. The bond record should be read with the court docket and the jail entry. That combination can separate the moment custody ended from later hearings, bond terms, or a final case result.
Note: A bond entry proves a release mechanism, while the linked court file explains what happens to the charge afterward.
Lamar County Release Record Fields
The reachable arrest-date search provides a useful field inventory. It may show a person’s name, status, sex, height, weight, address, arrest date, days in jail, total bond, warrant number, counts, statute, charge description, offense level, and court. Because it mixes released and currently booked entries and is keyed to arrest date, it cannot stand alone as proof of an exact discharge.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name and status | The matching identity and whether that entry reads RELEASED or CURRENTLY BOOKED |
| Arrest date and days in jail | The start and length context for the displayed booking |
| Total bond | Bond information tied to the booking, not necessarily the final case outcome |
| Warrant and counts | The process and number of charge counts linked to the arrest |
| Statute and description | The cited charge and its plain label |
| Court | The court most likely to hold the disposition or sentence record |
| Release time and reason | Not shown in the visible arrest-date fields; request this from the sheriff |
A formal request can ask for the Inmate Info Sheet, booking sheet, release or discharge entry, bond-release paper, and transfer record. The request should name the person, give the known arrest or booking date, and ask for the actual release date, time, reason, and destination if maintained. For a state inmate, GDC sentence and release fields replace the county form. For a federal record, the BOP locator or federal records route applies.
Request Lamar County Release Records
The sheriff’s open-records form includes an Inmate Info Sheet choice and an “Other” field for a more exact request. The form asks for requester contact details, record type, case number, date or time, involved names, location, and other identifying facts. Use the sheriff route for the jail record and the correct clerk for the court disposition.
- Write the person’s full name and any known arrest date, case number, or warrant number.
- Check “Inmate Info Sheet.” In “Other,” state that the request seeks the release date, release time, release reason, and transfer destination if those fields are maintained.
- Submit through the sheriff records contact. The county lists Ginger Story at gstory@lamarcountysheriff.com, 770-358-5159 or 770-358-5377. The sheriff also lists general@lamarcountysheriff.com for the Custodian of Records.
- For in-person service, go to 121 Roberta Drive in Barnesville on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Minimal fees may apply.
- For a mailed report, include the case number, requester name, a self-addressed stamped envelope, and a $3 cashier’s check or money order payable to Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.
The administrative instructions ask requesters to allow at least three business days, or 72 hours, after a report is filed before seeking a copy. That is not a promise that every release request will be finished in three days. Georgia’s Open Records Act generally requires a response within three business days when records are available, or a statement about access and timing when they are not.

Lamar County Release Access Limits
O.C.G.A. 50-18-71 supplies the Georgia open-records framework for inspection and copying of public records. O.C.G.A. 42-4-7 addresses county inmate records and release at sentence expiration less earned-time allowances. Together, they help explain why a local jail record and a state sentence record are distinct.
Not every field remains open. Juvenile, sealed, restricted, or first-offender material can have access limits. The sheriff explains that record restriction under O.C.G.A. 35-3-37 follows different procedures based on the arrest date. For arrests after July 1, 2013, the prosecutor is the contact rather than an application through the arresting agency. The Towaliga Circuit District Attorney reviews eligible restriction requests sent from law-enforcement agencies. Restriction changes access to qualifying criminal-history material; it should not be treated as proof that an event never occurred.
Lamar County Release Property Deadlines
Release can leave small but urgent tasks at the jail. The sheriff’s commissary instructions say that if an order arrives after release or transfer, the former detainee or a designated family member has five days to collect it. Unclaimed items are destroyed after that window. This rule matters when a person is transferred to GDC or another jail as well as when the person returns home.
Scanned mail follows a separate route. The communications page says a person released from Lamar County custody may request digital copies by emailing Lieutenant Stephanie Melton and supplying the person’s name, facility, and email information. Property pickup and mail access do not establish the legal reason for release, but they can help confirm which office handled the end of the jail stay.
Note: Ask jail staff about property at once because the researched commissary pickup period is only five days.
Find Lamar County Released Inmates
Start with the custody level, not a broad name search. Lamar County has no verified rolling release list. The old root jail population page is removed, and the surviving arrest-date view is a clue rather than a complete release archive. A careful search carries the same identifiers from the local status result to the office that owns the final record.
- Search the Lamar arrest-date page by name and a likely date range. Read RELEASED as a status clue, not an exact timestamp.
- Note the arrest date, court, charge, warrant, total bond, and days in jail. These facts help separate people with similar names.
- Call jail operations at 770-358-5151 or file the sheriff records request when an exact release reason or transfer destination is needed.
- Check the named court for the disposition. The court record may show bond, dismissal, sentence, time served, probation, revocation, or transfer.
- If state custody followed, search GDC with active and inactive records enabled. Check the Parole Board or DCS if supervision may have begun.
- Use Georgia VINELink for available custody alerts, BOP for a federal sentence, and ICE when an immigration hold or transfer is shown.
Why did the person leave the roster? A current roster answers who is held now. Once the person is released or moved, the lasting proof shifts to the sheriff record, court docket, GDC inactive record, supervision file, or receiving agency.
Search GDC Lamar County Releases
Use GDC Find an Offender only when the person entered Georgia state custody. It can locate a facility, charges, and release date. Search scope matters. A former state prisoner may be missed if only active offenders are selected, so include inactive records or use both active and inactive scope.
| Search field | Use | Release value |
|---|---|---|
| Last and first name | Core identity search | Use variations if spelling is uncertain |
| Gender, race, age | Narrow similar names | Optional identity filters |
| GDC ID | Find one known state record | Best unique state identifier |
| Case number | Connect conviction and sentence | Useful when supplied by court records |
| Active/inactive scope | Choose the record population | Include inactive for released state offenders |
| Sentence status | Limit by custody timing | Includes Released In The Past 15 Days |
The official offender search start is shown below. Its disclaimer says photos appear automatically where available and advises verification with GDC Inmate Records and Information.
The screen marks the state source clearly, which helps prevent a GDC release date from being mistaken for a Lamar County jail discharge.
Match Lamar Release Records to Court
The court field in the arrest-date result is the best routing clue. The Clerk of Superior and Juvenile Court handles criminal records at 326 Thomaston Street and may hold a disposition, sentence, or completion order. Magistrate Court handles criminal and warrant matters at 121 Roberta Drive. Probate Court handles Lamar County and City of Milner traffic citations and misdemeanor offenses. A release search that assumes every case belongs in Superior Court can miss the record.
Georgia Courts also offers an e-access directory, and PeachCourt provides statewide electronic filing access where a record is available. Local access differs by court and document. Contact the clerk named by the jail record when the online path is unclear. The court file may explain why Lamar County custody ended even when no release timestamp remains online.
Which record proves the reason? The jail status proves that local booking is no longer current. The disposition, bond order, sentence, or transfer record explains why.
Lamar County Release Supervision
State parole and felony probation are handled through different but linked systems. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles makes parole decisions and offers a parolee database. Georgia Department of Community Supervision manages field supervision, including through its Barnesville office for Lamar, Butts, Monroe, and the Towaliga Circuit. A person may therefore be outside jail yet subject to reporting and release conditions.
Local misdemeanor probation may instead run through Judicial Alternatives of Georgia in Barnesville. Court records are the better start when the order is probation rather than parole. The resolved Lamar County parole and probation resource separates the State Board, DCS, local probation, and warrant or revocation paths. None of these is a substitute for the original jail release timestamp.
Lamar Release Through Accountability Court
Towaliga Accountability Courts serves Lamar, Butts, and Monroe Counties from Barnesville. Its alternative sentencing programs combine court check-ins with treatment, counseling, drug testing, curfews, and supervision. This creates a local status that does not fit a simple “in jail” or “free of court oversight” choice.
A person placed in an accountability court can be out of Lamar County jail while still reporting to the court program. Verify that status through the case docket and program contact, not through GDC unless a state sentence also exists. This path is distinct from parole and from ordinary misdemeanor probation.
Lamar County Release or ICE Transfer
The sheriff’s Criminal Alien Track and Report supplies local detainer context. The researched report covers January 2, 2025 through January 2, 2026 and lists arrests, undocumented-alien counts, detainers, current population figures, and named entries. It does not prove that a named person entered the community.
When a county booking ends on an immigration hold, check the ICE Online Detainee Locator using the A-number or name, country of birth, and birth date. A county “release” may be an ICE transfer. The same rule applies to another county’s detainer or a federal hold: confirm with the agency that received custody.
Note: A detainer can end Lamar County custody without ending custody as a whole or establishing a community release.
Lamar County Release Alerts
Georgia VINELink is a specific-person custody and notification tool where an agency supplies data. Search by name or a known ID, compare the record, and register for available phone, text, or email alerts. Phone alerts use a four-digit PIN. VINE is not a permanent history of every Lamar County release, so exact proof still belongs with the sheriff, court, or GDC.
The sheriff-linked Lamar sex offender registry page is a narrower post-release channel. It says sheriffs update registry data within two working days, the registry updates daily, and a required registrant reports within 72 hours after release or supervision placement. This applies only to registrable offenses. Absence from the registry says nothing about most released inmates.
Lamar County Release Facility History
The current Lamar County jail was built in 1992, has 152 beds, and is staffed by 21 sworn jailers. It is the Lamar County Detention Center at 121 Roberta Drive, not the historic old jail behind the courthouse. That distinction prevents an old landmark reference from being used for a current release request.
The sheriff’s jail operations page is shown below and identifies the source for local jail processing and release questions.
The source screen anchors local jail facts to the sheriff, while GDC and federal systems remain separate record owners.
